Jean Vella Burford – Obituary

Jean Belle Burford passed from this life on November 23, 2012.

 
Visitation will be Monday, November 26, 2012, at Elkins Funeral Home Florence from 12-1:30 PM.  A graveside service will be at 2 PM at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
 
She was born on August 5, 1926 in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up there.  While living in Memphis, Miss Burford attended the Union Avenue church of Christ.  Miss Burford graduated in 1944 from Central High School in Memphis and in 1949 from the Florence State Teacher’s College (UNA).
 
Miss Burford moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1949 to teach in the public school system, where she taught elementary school children and worked with special education students until her retirement in 1989.  While living in Chattanooga, she was a member of the Ridgedale church of Christ.
 
After her retirement, Miss Burford moved back to Florence.  She was a member of the Wood Avenue church of Christ, and enjoyed volunteering at the Florence-Lauderdale County Public Library.  She had a passion for learning, and enjoyed taking classes at the UNA Institute for Learning in Retirement.
 
Miss Burford is predeceased by her parents, Mr. Alexander Mitchell Burford, Sr., and Mrs. Mary Tittle Burford.  She is survived by her brother, Mr. A. Mitchell Burford, Jr. of Florence.
