Jean Dougherty Leopard, 88 of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, at Athens Health and Rehab. Mrs. Leopard was born on September 11th, 1934, in Limestone County, to William Copley Dougherty and Julia Bertha Edith Gilliam Dougherty.
Mrs. Leopard is survived by her children Cindy Haney (Brian), of Athens, Mike Leopard, of Gurley, and Tracy Leopard (Penny Wise) of Midland, Georgia; grandchildren Jessica Haney, of OFallon, Illinois, and Mallory Veres (Chris), of Brentwood, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Eloise and Lucas; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John Leopard; sister Joyce Nelson; and brother Bud Dougherty.
Funeral services for Mrs. Leopard will be Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at 11:00am at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Steve Dorning officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00-10:50 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Veres, Nathan Leopard, Billy Nelson, Jerry Rodgers, John Benigni, and John Babb. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold McDonald, Rod Huffman, and David Evans.
Mrs. Leopard was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Limestone County and the Athens Limestone Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the founder of the Merry Widows group. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, traveling, and Alabama football. But she dearly loved her family and friends.
