Jean Askew Westover passed away on September 30, 2022, surrounded by family who loved her very much. She was 78 years old.
Jean grew up here in Huntsville, AL, went to Butler High School and briefly attended Athens College. She and her five siblings were raised by a single mother and Jean learned how to work hard and get what she wanted at an early age. She was working for IBM when she met her husband, Joe in 1966. They soon moved to Houston, TX and then on to Seattle, WA where they had two children and made a home together.
Jean was a strong, independent woman who could tackle any task, from putting up wallpaper, to laying a brick patio, to program managing the rebuild of our family home after a catastrophic fire. She was unstoppable with her determination and resilience. For many years she juggled a career as Vice President of a wheelchair manufacturing company and raising kids, while seemingly never missing a soccer or basketball game, PTA meeting or neighborhood gathering.
She was a creative and gifted artist, painter, and crafter, taking joy in making heartfelt gifts for family, friends, and neighbors. She will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph R. Westover; her daughter, Jenae Marie Westover; her son, Jeffrey Raymond Westover and daughter-in-law, Patricia Westover; and her four grandchildren, Elijah, Lily, Mary Lauren and Katelyn Westover. She is also survived by her devoted siblings, Joyce Askew Joyce, James Askew, Vickie Askew Neely, and Carol Askew Albright and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Magnolia Trace Retirement Community, 1 Clubhouse Avenue Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35802 at 2 p.m. on Saturday October 22, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Crisis Services of North Alabama or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
