Jay C. Short Jay Short, 60, of Huntsville passed away Sunday, Dec. 22. Jay was born in Amarillo, Texas, grew up in Dallas, Texas and moved to Huntsville in 1994. He attended East Texas State and The University of Texas and studied Spanish for a year in Mexico before graduating from Southern Methodist University.

Jay was passionate about family, cooking and his friends. He lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. Jay surrounded himself with friends and celebrated his love for them with an annual “Chili Bowl” that became legendary. Jay loved donating his time using his cooking and auctioneering skills at various charitable functions. He was known by many from the BBQ team “OOPS.” Jay owned Superior Components, was a classically trained chef and founded Jala Jala Foods. Jay’s tagline for his Jala Jala products was “Know the Glow.” Jay didn’t just offer people a product — he offered them a piece of himself. To know him was to “Know the Glow,” and we are all grateful for that blessing.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Billie Short and niece Jeneé Bedell. Survivors include his wife of 34 years Susan Short, his children Travis and Samantha, sister Jan Bedell (Allen), brothers Jamie Short and Jon Short (Terry) and niece Alysa Stephens (Scott).
Jay was a loving brother-in-law to Karen Makay (Mickey) and DeeDee Utley (Dan) and a precious uncle to Kenzie, Carter, Kayleigh, Allison, Lauren and Brooke.

Visitation will be 1–3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church with service immediately following.
