Jasper Toddler Dies In Single-Vehicle Accident; Two Others Injured

FAYETTE COUNTY-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency report a single-vehicle accident has tken the life of a two-year-old child and sent two other people to hospital with injuries:

“A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:24 a.m. Sunday, December  8, has claimed the life of a Jasper toddler.

The 2-year-old was fatally injured when the 2020 Toyota Tacoma that the child was a passenger in left the roadway and struck a tree. The toddler was unrestrained and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, Steven B. Collins, 40, of Jasper, who was not using a seat belt at the time of crash, was ejected and transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB) for treatment. A second passenger of the Toyota, Wendy J. Bailey, 22, also of Jasper, was injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital for treatment. Bailey was not using a seat belt at the time of crash.

The crash occurred on Fayette County 73 near Morris Cemetery Road, approximately two miles south of Glen Allen, in Fayette County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
