Janet Loretta ReedJanet Loretta Taylor Reed beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Hendersonville, TN on September 20, 2025. There will be a private family entombment on Friday, September 26th in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Matthew Reed, Jack Wilkerson, Jay Michael Taylor, Jackson Taylor, Gus Carder and Robert Brown serving as pallbearers. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday September 27th, at 12 noon, at Springfield First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Jones and Rev. Dr. Jason Wilkerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until time of the service at 12pm, at the church.

Janet was born February 6, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Horty L. and Edith Miller Taylor. She was a Class of 1962 graduate of Elizabethton High School, in Elizabethton TN. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart and beloved husband, David Reed; together they recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past June.

In 1971, David and Janet chose Springfield, Tennessee, as their home, where David joined the optometry practice of the late Dr. Lloyd Traughber. Janet earned her Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from Milligan College in 1964 and worked as a church secretary for several years. She was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church, Springfield Federation of Woman’s Century Club, Nite Owls FCE/Homemakers Club, Monthly Thursday Bridge Group, and served as a Girl Scout leader, as well as a children and youth ministries volunteer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service that reflected her faith and will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

She is preceded in death by Horty L. & Edith Miller Taylor and Joe (Shirley) Taylor. She is survived by her husband, Dr. David Reed; her children, Jennifer (Dr. Jason) Wilkerson and Wesley (Michelle) Reed; and her grandchildren, Jack (Daniela) Wilkerson, Matthew Reed, Kate Wilkerson, Caroline Reed, Abby Wilkerson and great-grandchild Eleanor Wilkerson. Additional survivors include her siblings; Dr. Bob (Joan) Taylor of Indianapolis, IN; Mike (Peggy) Taylor of Piney Flats, TN.; Ken (Barbara) Taylor of Hermitage, TN along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Springfield First United Methodist Church or The Patty Dunn Memorial Backpack Attack Program.
