Janet Daye Harkleroad Thompson passed away at home on June 15, 2020. She was born in Irvine, Kentucky and moved to Richmond at age 6 where she attended Model Laboratory School. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. Moves with her husband would take her to Charlotte after graduation and Huntsville in 1960, but she remained a “Kentucky Girl” in her heart all her life. Jan was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her role as grandmother or “Sport” was her finest.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Glasgow Harkleroad and Geneva Embry Hundley, twin brothers, Samuel Glenn (who died in infancy) and Charles English Harkleroad, and sister, Nancy Faye Harkleroad Drane.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bobby James Thompson; son, Kevin Stuart Thompson; daughter, Lori Shannon Dendy; son-in-law, Michael Joseph Dendy; and precious grandchildren, Aryn Michael Dendy and Andrew Thompson Dendy.

Special thanks to Dr. Michael Honeywell, Crestwood medical staff and Hospice Family Care for their skilled and compassionate care.

A family graveside service will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Wren Clanton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Huntsville.
