James”Jimmy” Donald Smith – Obituary

James Donald Smith, age 81, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2017, at his home in Pinson.

He was born July 16, 1935 in Jackson, TN the son of the late Joseph Perry and Mary Louise Singley Smith. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 and attended Freed-Hardeman College. He married Patricia ‘Patsy’ Evans in 1955. They made their home in Pinson all their married life. Mr. Smith was a switchman for Illinois Central Railroad for thirty years.

He was a charter member of the Pinson Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder; the Pinson Ruritan Club where he had served as President, and was a member of the ROMEO Club, “Retired Old Men Eating Out” at Brenda’s Restaurant in Pinson. He enjoyed antiquing.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Patricia ‘Patsy’ Rosalind Evans Smith of Pinson, three daughters, Angelia Hysmith and husband Randy of Jackson, Cheryl Marberry of Jackson and Pam Murray and husband Bob of Franklin, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bobby Joe Smith, and a son-in-law Steve Marberry.

Funeral services will be 1:00 Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Pinson Church of Christ with Randy Hysmith and Robert Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery in Pinson.

The family will receive friends at the Pinson Church of Christ beginning at 11:00 Friday until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pinson Ruritan Club.
