James Wayne Patterson (Jimmy) – Obituary

James Wayne Patterson (Jimmy), age 73, of Sheffield, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, peacefully at home with his family by his side. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, with Ronnie Poag officiating.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Patterson.
Survivors include sons, Randy Patterson and wife, Denise Patterson, and Tommy Patterson; daughter, Sydna Love Mathes and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Tyler Patterson, Cody Patterson, Ryan Mathes, Taylor Mathes, Garrett Mathes, Mitchell Patterson and Turner Patterson; and close friend and step great-granddaughter, Kaylee Vinson.
Jimmy was a member of the UA Pipefitters and Plumbers local 760 since 1968. He retired from the Sheffield Utilities in 2008. He was a member of Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. He was enthusiastically involved with coaching young men baseball earlier in his life. He aimed at teaching youthful young men about the most important aspects of life, caring, giving and team aspects. He taught numerous young men on not only being a better player but a better person. He continued this for 20 years. Jimmy’s life was lived in the following way, to laugh often and love much, to win the respect of acquaintances and the affection of children. That was his passion in life.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Broussard, Eddy Carpenter, Buddy Gargis, Randy Hayes, Devon Hegler and Dennis May.
Honorary pallbearers include Lewis Moore, Mack Lansdell and Tom Peeden.
The family would like to thank the many neighbors and friends who have been a comfort and support to him and the family. A special thanks to Hospice of the Shoals for their tireless efforts.
