James Robert “Bob” Hurd, Sr. – Obituary

James Robert “Bob” Hurd, Sr. loved all of God’s creation. He passed into heaven on Monday, July 10, 2017 at age 88 years. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 2-3:45 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 4 p.m. in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Pastor Larry Young will be officiating. Bob spent 23 years in the military branch of the US Coast Guard and Navy. He spent 18 years working as a drawbridge operator for Norfolk Southern Railroad and he received his degree from the University of North Alabama at the age of 50. He was a founding member of Parkway Community Church in Florence, AL. Bob was the last, living child of Charlie Frank and Ellen Irene Hurd of Oxly, Missouri.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Frank and Ellen Irene Hurd; three of four children, Timothy, Kimberly and Jim; eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Hurd; Daughter, Linda Cameron (son-in-law, Jerry); four grandchildren, Ashlyn, Alex, Shelby, and Callie; five great grandchildren.
