Ivanell Roberts Gibson, of Florence, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 9, 2017, after a courageously fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Soft-spoken and sweet spirited to the end, her “thank you” was frequent and sincerely meant. She lived a happy and long life; a life centered on God, her family and her home.

You are invited to join us for a celebration of her life at a graveside service that will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with Robert Sparkman officiating.

She was born in Winston County on August 12, 1921, to the late Culey and Queenie Roberts. She was very proud to tell anyone that she was a country girl at heart, having been raised during the Great Depression in the hills of Winston County.

She was active in First United Methodist Church, Florence, until her health prohibited her attendance. She was a proud and loyal member of the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday School Class. She was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. and worked in the Children’s Department; a part-time job that she enjoyed tremendously.

The oldest of four children, she was preceded in death by three brothers, C.W., Albert, and DeWitt. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Nolan Brooks Gibson “N.B.”, and her son, Nolan Brooks Gibson, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda May; granddaughters, Amy May Southerland (David), and Becky May; and two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Lucy Locke.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her excellent caregivers, Johnnie Murphree and Le Traylor, who have loved her (and us) as their own, and to Kindred Hospice for their loving care and support during these last few months.

Matthew 25:21 – “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
