James “Ragen” Ivey Nunley, 55, of Huntsville died Sunday, June 2, 2019 peacefully at his home in Huntsville, AL, surrounded by his mother and family. Ragen was born on November 8, 1963 in Harvey, IL to Dora Ivey Clay.

Ragen had the biggest heart and was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His passion for country music was like no other, and his talent for singing allowed him to share that passion with the world. Ragen’s career in country music allowed him to work with some of the best talent in the industry and to achieve so many things including an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. Later in life Ragen enjoyed using his talent for the benefit of others including a local volunteer fire department. He was truly loved by all that knew him and was a friend to everyone.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Arnold officiating. Pallbearers will be Kyle Nunley, Willie White, W.C. Potter, Steven Smith, Brian Mowry and Dustin Garrison.
Interment will follow at Austell Cemetery. A visitation service will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

Ragen was preceded in death by his father: Lonnie “Pops” Clay.
He is survived by his mother: Dora Ivey Clay of Huntsville, AL; two siblings: DeeDee McGee (Tim) of Madison, AL and Kimberly Martin of Grant, AL; his son: Kyle Nunley (Tori) of Decatur, AL; his grandson: Wyatt Nunley of Decatur, AL; many nieces, nephews, friends and family; and his wonderful dog: Smoochy.
