Bro. James Owen Hawkins, age 93 of Estill Springs, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Russellville, Alabama on July 28, 1928 to the late Sydney and Dora (Thompson) Hawkins. Bro. Hawkins was a devoted man of God who spent a lifetime sharing God’s word everywhere he went. Along with his beloved wife Betty, he founded Endtime Mission Church in Estill Springs. He retired from the church at the age of 90. He deeply loved his family and friends and showed his love in many ways. He was an avid giver in the ministry. Bro Hawkins served as an evangelist traveling through sixteen states ministering in churches and in tent ministry. He had a special love and compassion for the children of Haiti, where he and his wife served for over thirty years, traveling, supporting, and helping fund eleven churches, five schools, an orphanage, and a clinic, as well as feeding the children. Bro. Hawkins was a hard worker and enjoyed working outdoors. He enjoyed building and working with his hands on just about anything he could think of. He was well known for his rock business where he sold many rocks as well as witnessed to the many people he sold to, earning the title Rock Man. Most importantly, his life will be remembered as a Kingdom Builder who served, built, and expanded God’s Kingdom. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Betty Jean Bolin Hawkins; daughter, Rebecca Joan Smith; sisters, Rachel Reeves, Jean Thompson, and Ida Hawkins; brothers, Verlon Hawkins, Ronnie Hawkins, Hershal Hawkins, and Norman Hawkins; and grandson, Keith Smith. Bro. Hawkins is survived by his loving children, Terry (Carol) Turner, Johnny (Delisa) Turner, Donnie (Tam) Turner, and Regina (Ricky) Bradford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Hallman and Barbara Vos; brother, Kenneth Hawkins; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Endtime Missionary Church in Estill Springs. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
