James Lee Short – Obituary

James Lee Short, 82, of Midway, Mississippi, died Monday, December 24, 2012, North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant after 27 years of service. He served in the Vietnam Conflict, and received the Bronze Star while in the Army. He was a member of Belmont High School class of 1949. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Midway Volunteer Fire Department, serving for many years since his retirement from the military. Visitation is scheduled for 9:30 AM until service time on Friday, December 28 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Friday, December 28, 2012, at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. J.B Burns. Interment will follow in Corinth National Cemetery. Pallbearers include Harry Bowman, Lamar Bolton, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Trussell, Sid Whitehurst, Walter Wynn, Lee Bruno, and Jeff Schroeder. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Johanna Short of Midway; 1 son – Pete Short (Audrey) of Elizabeth, CO; and 1 sister – Mildred Rutledge of Bartlett, TN He was preceded in death by his parents, Laster and Mittie Short. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Hill United Methodist Church Special Fund.
