James Kenneth “Kenny” Sumerel, age 74, of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his residence.
Kenny was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. His hobbies included going to yard sales and being able to convince them of cheaper prices. He loved to talk and never met a stranger. Kenny loved his family very much and loved being around all children, always being ready to play with them.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 53 years, Bobbie Sue Taff Sumerel; son, James Keith “Jamie” Sumerel (Amiee’); grandson, Blake Pruitt; brother, Bobby W. Sumerel (Linda); nephews & niece, Michael Sumerel (Shannon), Wade Sumerel, Patti Young, Robert Sumerel; as well as a host of other family members who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jewel (Sr) and Lena (Kennedy) Sumerel; brother, John J. Sumerel, Jr.; sister, Rosa Sumerel Snider; nephews, John “Johnny” Sumerel, Jeffrey Snider; and niece, Carla Sumerel Mitchell.
The visitation will 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Chase Dowdy officiating the service. The burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Michael Sumerel, Wade Sumerel, Blake Pruitt, and Jeff Smith. The honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Smith, Dwayne Biggerstafff, Dionisio Ambrosia, and Chris Smith.
