James “Jamie” P. Smith – Obituary

James “Jamie” P. Smith, age 67, of Lexington, Alabama, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at home after an extended illness. He was a native of Lauderdale County, Alabama, a retired poultry farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War, and a member of Lexington United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Lexington United Methodist Church today, April 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. Kenny Baskins and Sam Hayes will be officiating. Burial will follow in Portertown Cemetery with military honors presented at the graveside. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Survivors are his wife, Gail Allen Smith, Lexington, Alabama; two sons, Craig Smith (Melanie), Five Points, Tennessee and Josh Smith (Emily), Trinity, Alabama; one brother, Tommy H. Smith (Martha), Athens, Alabama; two sisters, Joan Jones, Florence, Alabama, Martha Barnett (Troy), Florence, Alabama; mother and father-in-law, Johnnie “Gat” Allen( Norma), Killen, Alabama; brother-in-law, Johnnie Allen (Sandy), Lexington, Alabama; sister-in-law, Melissa Allen, Killen, Alabama; four grandchildren, Kaley, Alli, Maggie, and Will Smith; also several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, Horton and Alene Putnam Smith; brothers, Richard Smith and Eddie Smith.

Pallbearers will be Barry Oldham, Bryant Griffin, Jerry McCain, Bobby Smith, Roger Farley, and Bundy Nava.

Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Cox, Don Coker, and Danny Knight.
