James J. Gobbell, a proud Navy veteran and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Born in Wayne County, TN, in 1924, James was the son of Earlie and Pearl Moore Gobbell. His century-long life was marked by dedication, service, and love.

During World War II, James served his country with honor aboard the U.S.S. Oak Hill in the Pacific Theater. After his military service, he moved to Rossford, Ohio, where he and his beloved wife of 60 years, Doris Gresham Gobbell, raised their family. James spent many years working at the Libbey-Owens-Ford Company, contributing to the glass industry until his well-earned retirement.

James is survived by his children: James Eugene (Beth) Gobbell, Sharon Berryhill, Karen Schuelke, Susan (Verlon) Robbins, and Julie Martin; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Dexter (Myrtle) Gobbell and Ruby Bradley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; daughter, Linda Faye Braatz; grandson, Jeremy Berryhill; and special friend, Betty Bryant.

Per the deceased wishes a private memorial will be held at a later date.

James will be fondly remembered for his enduring love for his family and his lifelong commitment to serving others. His legacy of service and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
