Funeral Services for Mr. James “Homer” Miller, age 83 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. James Irvin officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Miller passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Clay County and attended Clay County High School. He began working for Alabama Power directly out of high school, and worked for nearly 30 years as a lineman. Mr. Miller also owned and operated J & M Motors in Ashland for a number of years. Outside of work, he enjoyed tending to his cattle farm, attending cow sales and car shows, and genuinely enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Mr. Miller is survived by his children: Kim Walker (Mark) of Ashland, Mark Miller (Lori) of Birmingham, Melissa Canseco (Alberto) of Ashland, Kimberly Hearrell of Birmingham, and Brandon Hearrell of Ashland; six grandchildren: Brittney Bowen (Michael), Brandy Johnson (Eli), Brody Walker, Jacob Canseco (Grace), Wesley Canseco, and Eric Canseco; and three great-grandchildren: Ellie, Sarah, and Everett.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James Homer Miller and Ive Thomaston Miller; one daughter, Shannan Thomas; and two half-brothers.

Active Pallbearers will be Mark Walker, Brody Walker, Alberto Canseco, Logan Canseco, Wesley Canseco, and Eric Canseco.

His visitation will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland beginning at 11:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M.
