James Guy Alexander, age 65, of Florence, died March 27, 2013, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. Services will be 3 p.m. today, March 30, 2013, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Cemetery in Reform, Ala. with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette Shirley Alexander, of Florence, Ala.; his sons, Michael Alexander (Lauren), of Austin, Texas, and Richard Alexander (Kristy), of Dallas, Texas; his sisters, Linda Carr, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Brenda Weaver (Jerry), of Northport, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Anne Katherine Alexander, Jacob Browning, Benjamin Alexander, Nicole Alexander and Garrett Alexander.
Mr. Alexander was born March 3, 1948, in Reform, Ala. to the late George Guy Alexander and Martha Laurene McCrary Alexander. He was a professor at Alabama A & M University.
Pallbearers will be Rick Beatty, Chris Knight, Jonathan Carr, Alexander Weaver and Hilary Beatty.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 1120 35th St., Suite B, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401, or a favorite food bank.
