James Edward “Jamie” Grant, age 58, of Sheffield, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at his residence. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26th from noon until 1 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home of Florence. A private graveside service will follow.
He was born at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley, Mississippi on March 25, 1960. He was the fourth sibling of five children born to parents, Douglas Ward Grant Sr. and Mildred Cochran Grant. He always excelled in school academics and athletics and lettered four years in football. He went to state competitions in wrestling and won many divisions in his weight class. After graduating high school, he went to Muscle Shoals Tech School and graduated in the field of welding. He worked on barges, shipyards, and various welding jobs, and worked as a carpenter for many years. He later retired with COPD disability.
Jamie loved reading books, watching the discovery channel, WWW RAW Wrestling, Jeopardy, and always watched the TV News. His most favorite time of the year was fall college football. He deeply loved his Alabama football and always let you know that he was their number one fan. He loved spending time with his friends watching Alabama football, baseball, and professional football games.
For his friends Jamie will be deeply missed during the fall football season. He had a giving heart willing to help anyone in their time of need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Grant Sr. and Mildred Cochran Grant; siblings, Douglas Grant Jr., Cathy Grant, and Susan Smith.
Survivors are his little brother, Michael David Grant (Danna); niece, Kasie Laster (Samuel); great-niece, Anna Grace; great-nephew, Gabriel; and nephew, Luke Smith (fiance` Lanney).
We would like to thank Dr. Karr and his staff for taking care of Jamie during his illness and his loving family.
