James E. “Mickey” Bumpus, Sr., age 85, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN, retired from Ford Motor Company, a UAW retiree, and a member of West Gaines Church of Christ. He found joy in helping and serving the people of his community.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Wiley Bumpas; his mother, Ostella Marie Wilkerson Sowell; two sons, Wayne Embry Bumpus and James E. “Butch” Bumpus, Jr.; step-father, Delmar Brock Sowell; two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Curley V. Harlan Bumpus of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Cynthia Denise Bumpus Thomas (Percy) of Panama City, FL; one sister, Mildred Parnell Harlan of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren, Candace A. Thomas of Panama City, FL, Patrice O. Thomas of Panama City, FL, and Wayne M.C. Thomas of Panama City, FL; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Orum, Jayden Thomas, and James Caleb Thomas; several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Friday, March 22, 2024, with Michael Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
