James Daniel “Dan” Walker, age 93, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023. Dan was born in Anniston, Alabama on February 28, 1930, son of John Daniel “Jake” and Mattie Lois Beavers Walker. He graduated from Jacksonville State in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and enjoyed a distinguished career working for the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. He was a dedicated member of numerous Monte Sano community organizations for 65 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bettye Coats, of Bremen, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Bette Cowden Walker, of Huntsville, Alabama; two daughters, Cynthia (Stephen Geoffray) Walker of Dallas, Texas, and Sally (John) Crenshaw, of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, John Daniel “Jake” (Amanda) Crenshaw of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kathryn (Taylor Miller) Crenshaw of Washington, D.C.; nephews Jeff, Cliff, and Chris Coats and Bill and Rick Cowden; and dear friends, Betsy Crenshaw and Emma Godfrey.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Monte Sano United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. The family will receive friends following the service.
