James B. “Red” Brooks, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 86 on Monday, May 7, 2018.
Mr. Brooks was born in New Hope on January 18, 1932.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Brooks; father Andrew Jackson Brooks, Sr.; sisters, Ethel Mae Brooks Scrimsher and Aileen Brooks Dill; brother Andrew Jackson Brooks, Jr.; wife Beulah Brooks; daughter Teresa Brooks; and wife Juanc Leak Brooks.
Survivors include his life partner, Shirley; sons, James E. Brooks and David Brooks; daughter Rita Bennefield; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Red was retired from USPS. He was a Golden Eagle, loved to fish and spend time with his family – especially watching cartoons with his grandkids. He was the best “Poppy” ever, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. As his family says, we loved him “just a little bit” which was one of his favorite sayings.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 20th at 4pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 2500 10th Street SW; Huntsville, AL. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
