James Alexander “J.A.” Thompson – Obituary

Funeral service for James Alexander “J.A.” Thompson, age 86, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, February 25, 2014,  1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Chitwood officiating.  The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.    Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson, who died Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born April 25, 1927, in Morgan County, to Pat Thompson and Nova Leeman Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his stepson, John Mark Dutton, two brothers, James W. Thompson and Thomas Henry Thompson, and one sister, Ella Jane Thompson.  Mr. Thompson was a member of Westmeade Baptist Church, retired from 3M Corporation, and a veteran of the U. S. Army.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Houser Thompson of Decatur; one son, Pat Thompson of Decatur; one daughter, Janova Reid of Decatur; two stepsons, Stephen Lane Dutton (Paula) of Elkton, MD, and James Keith Dutton (Laura) of Decatur; one brother, Hugh Thompson of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Thompson, Blake Williams, Nick Burns, Tommy Thompson, Billy Thompson, and Charles Henderson.
