Jacquelyn “Jackie” Rae Akins Marler – Obituary

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Rae Akins Marler died in Florence AL on Thursday April 19, 2018 at the age of 86. She had lost her husband of 32 years, Gene Marler, on Monday April 16th. She was born Sep 25, 1931 in Boulder, CO – a direct descendant of the founder of Boulder, CO, Captain Thomas Akins. She worked for the University of Colorado in her early years and many years at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In retirement she and Gene had also lived in Arizona and Texas. She is survived by two brothers, Thomas Akins (Sue) of Canyon City, CO and Charles Akins of Boulder, CO; 3 daughters: Mona Pate (Rick) of Haleyville, AL; Marsha Hosner (Rich) of Harvest, AL; and Margo Wells (Cecil) of Guntersville, AL; 2 step sons: David Marler (Holly) of Iowa and Stephen Marler of New Jersey; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Guy B. Akins, Jr. and her parents, Guy B. Akins and Rachel Conda Akins. She was the loving matriarch of our family and will be sorely missed.
There will be a private graveside service held at a later date.
