Jackie Rose Arthur Childs

Jackie Rose Arthur Childs passed away on April 12th, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, at home and surrounded by loved ones. Born November 8th, 1953, in Millington, TN, Jackie grew up in Haleyville, AL, where she cheerled and was voted Miss Haleyville High School. She attended the University of Alabama (Zeta Tau Alpha) alongside her future devoted and adoring husband of 45 years, Edward Childs, and attained undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing from UAB. Jackie and Edward wed in 1977 and, two years later, embarked to Mobile, AL, to start a private medical practice together. The long hours of their beautiful partnership paid off as their practice flourished, serving thousands of Mobilians across a decade. But Jackie was born to be a mother, and in 1985 gave birth to her only child, Allen Moore, whom she loved infinitely for the rest of her life. After raising Allen in Birmingham, Jackie and Edward moved in 2014 to Pine Apple, AL, before returning to Birmingham once more in early 2022.

Jackie was a doting aunt to many, directing unforgettable plays and skits starring the children during family beach trips to Panama City. She befriended every person she could with her radiant smile and even brighter bubbly spirit. Jackie loved classic Disney movies, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, early Beatles music, Alabama football, and God. She was smarter than she ever knew, but her kindness and warmth are legendary and will ripple through countless generations. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Jacqulyn and David Arthur, and her beloved grandmother Amy Burns Moore, whom she especially carried deep in her soul. She is survived by Edward, Allen, her precious sisters Mary Lou Hill and Frankie Carter, her in-laws Paul and Maxine Childs, and many special nieces, nephews, and other friends and family.

Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, Alabama. The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
