Jack Morris, 95, a lifelong resident of Morgan County, passed away Saturday morning, March 16, 2024, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Jack was the third of eight (8) children born to Theophilus and Viola Morris of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Bobbie Jean Austin Morris, grandson Brett Morris, his parents, and siblings Charles Morris, Thomas Morris, Harold Morris, and Evelyn Morris Rowe. He is survived by his three son’s,Jim Morris,Larry Morris (Cindy),Steve Morris (Tanya) and one daughter, Chere Morris Fulmer (Todd). He had five grandchildren, Wesley Morris, Chase Morris, Annalee Morris, Sean Morris and Heather Morris, and one great granddaughter Eva Morris. He is also survived by his siblings Earl Morris (Olga), Howard Morris, and Grace Morris Stubbs.
Jack graduated from Union Hill High School in 1947 where he was a member of the Morgan County Championship basketball team. He and Bobbie eloped to Iuka, Mississippi, then resided in Decatur and opened the Village Shoppe. Jack worked as a manufacturing supervisor at Monsanto, before retiring in 1985, after 32 years. In his retirement years, Jack was heavily involved in residential construction in the Priceville and Decatur areas with both his brothers and his sons. Jack was one of the original partners of the “Alabama Star” riverboat, a first of its kind in the modern era. While his children were in Decatur High, Jack was heavily involved in the Decatur High School Booster Club. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Elks Lodge. Jack was an avid golfer, and a fantastic grill master. He could always be seen with an infectious smile, while never meeting a stranger.
Pallbearers will be Larry Morris, Steve Morris, Sean Morris, Dennis Morris, Peyton Morris, and Johnny Austin.
A public graveside service will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm, at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, with Roselawn Funeral Home officiating. Devin Hudson, lead Pastor of City Church, Decatur, Al will conduct the service.
