It’s gonna be a cold and wet night for KIX96’s Josie Lane.

IMG_1115FLORENCE – When Josie Lane stuck her head up above the cold, rain-soaked roofline at ON THE ROCKS on Court Street today (Thursday), Executive Editor, Sheri Wiggins shouted up from the sidewalk, “Have you lost your mind?” The weather clearly had not gotten the memo that the team from Big River Broadcasting was helping raise money for the American Cancer Society’s RELAY FOR LIFE.

“We want to be right in the middle of First Friday festivities this weekend so we can raise lots of money”, Josie told The Quad-Cities Daily earlier in the day. The KIX-96 and WQLT radio folks are only 1 out of 50 teams in The Shoals who are pitching in to help this huge fundraising campaign. Josie added, “On May 17, the Relay For Life will be held at the University of North Alabama practice field. The event is held every year, and lasts all night long. We do it at night to emphasize that cancer never sleeps.”  Participants stay up all night. They walk the track, drink coffee and cocoa, and celebrate all the money that they raised to fight cancer.

The folks at ON THE ROCKS were eager to pitch in and lend the KIX-96 folks their roof. It’s cold up there as this story is being written. Josie has a small tent and a sleeping bag. Facilities are a bit of a climb away, but she’s a trooper. Inside, there will be jars for folks to put in their cash donations to help reach the goal of $15-hundred dollars. Fortunately for Josie, the weather is expected to moderate and get up to the high 70’s on Saturday. She climbs down from the roof Saturday night. The KIX-96 website has more information on Josie’s efforts. There’s also a special live stream from the rooftop. You can find it HERE.

The American Cancer society also accepts credit card donations. Those wishing to help out with their credit cards can call 256-767-0825.

Remember too, that The Quad-Cities Daily will be at the First Friday event taking photos. Stop by ON THE ROCKS and you just might have your photo taken with a Big River Broadcasting Team Member. While you’re there, be sure to drop some cash into the donation jars!

Here is a photo gallery of Josie Lane’s first day on the roof.
