Irene Tidmore Nelson, age 98, a lifelong resident of Arab, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Barfield Health Care. Irene was born June 2, 1926 in Marshall County, Alabama. Her parents were Franklin Flint Tidmore and Estelle Hardin Tidmore. She was a high school graduate and a member of Arab Church of Christ where she was involved in the Community Outreach program of baking cakes for families with recent deaths. Irene was married to James Roy Nelson (DOD 2003). Her interest and hobbies include, quilting, baking, reading, gardening and the International Bible College.
Surviving family members include sons, James R. Nelson (Wanda) and Jon Craig Nelson (Julie); daughter, Yvonne Nelson Abercrombie; four grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Flint and Estelle Tidmore; sons, Richard Keith Nelson and William Barry Nelson; daughter, Tammsie Ann “Tammy “Sparks, brothers, Alvin Tidmore and Wayne Tidmore; sisters, Betty Sue Bailey and Dot Opperman.
The family has elected cremation with a Memorial Service Friday, January 24, 2025 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Family, friends and guests will gather for a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the memorial services start at 12:00. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
