Irene Sudmalis Dalins, 94, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on September 25, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Ilmars Dalins, of Aizviki, Latvia, where he served in the Latvian Parliament. When they first moved to Huntsville in 1961, he worked for NASA as a physicist. Irene worked for the Census Bureau, then for the Huntsville Police Department, later as a proofreader at Strode Publishing, and then at Intergraph Corporation in computer graphics for over 10 years.

Irene’s hobbies included enjoying the woods behind her house, and reading English, Latvian, German, and Russian. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Huntsville.

Survivors include her sister, Ivette Sudmalis Lakes, of Marietta, Georgia; children, Andrew Dalins of Huntsville, Alabama, and Astrid Sylvia Dalins of North Miami, Florida; and grandson, Nathan Robert Dalins of Huntsville, Alabama, currently at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.

She will be greatly missed.
