Mrs. Irene May MacDonald age 95 of Centre passed away Wednesday June 8th at Cherokee Health & Rehab.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Monday June 13th at Kirk Memorial Gardens in Rainsville, Al., with Rev. Gary Kirk officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Sunday at Perry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Bobby Paul, Wayne Early, Keith Canal, Jim Garmany, Keith Mackey and Brad Weaver.
Survivors include son, Stan (Connie) MacDonald of Rainbow City; daughter, Janice Maddox of Leesburg; granddaughter, Paula (Seth) Gainey of Quinton, Va.; great-granddaughter, Mac Kenzie Gainey; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. MacDonald was preceded in death by her husband Edward MacDonald in 1999.
Mrs. MacDonald was a native of Braintree, Vt., daughter of the late Charles K. and Julia E. Griffin Dexter. She was a graduate of Keene States College, Keene, NH. Her 31 years of teaching were in Gilsum, NH., Conway and Whately, MA. She received the Wiegand Award for Excellence in teaching and was chosen Teacher of the Year during her 26 years in Whately. She retired in 1980 and with her husband moved to Rainville and later to Centre, Al. They enjoyed gardening and senior citizen trips.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cherokee Humane Society.
