FLORENCE-An Inmate, Michael Stacey Prater was released from the Lauderdale County Detention center by mistake on Wednesday, March 18th.

Authorities from the detention center say Prater  was serving time in the state prison for child abuse charges when he was transported back to Lauderdale County last week to be sentenced for an escape charge. Prater was sentenced to 15 years for the escape charge and returned to the jail.

Paperwork was sent to the detention center on Wednesday from the Alabama Department of Corrections notifying authorities that Prater was to be release on probation.

According to the officials at the Lauderdale Detention Center there were two sets of orders for Prater.   The jail was unaware of the pending charges against Prater and he was released on the first set of orders received.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of  Prater  or if you see him, you are  asked to call the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department at 256.760.5757 immediately. Prater should be considered dangerous.
