Imogene Isom Johnson, 94, went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2025. She was born on February 6, 1930, to parents O.C. and Agnes Stone Isom of Arab, AL. She was one of eleven children and was preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Dunn.
In April 1946 she married Nelson Johnson and was married until his passing in 2016. They lived all their lives in Arab until moving to Huntsville in 2013. Imogene took care of the 80-acre farm while he worked as a sheet metal worker. They enjoyed over 70 years of marriage and had four children.
She was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was known as MawMaw to her kids and grandkids. She was very talented and one of her favorite and last crafts was making cards. She enjoyed making birthday and Christmas cards for family and friends. Many people have received a card with the note on the back “handmade by Imogene Johson”.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Gamboa (Bill) of Huntsville; sons, Dr. Bobby Johnson (Judy) of Huntsville, Jimmy Johnson (Lesia) of Arab and Jeffrey Johnson of Huntsville; grandson, Nelson Craig Johnson (Courtney); granddaughter: Stephanie Johnson; great grandchildren, Nathanial Johnson and Axee Lambert (Casey), Dakota Deide, Lila Grace Deide; great great granddaughter, Collins Lambert; sister-in-law, Ruth Isom Kelly and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral Service will be Saturday Feb. 8, 2025, at 1 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with Brother Greg Stone and Brother Michael Lackey, officiating. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be: Nelson Craig Johson, Casey Lambert, Dakota Deide, Stacey Isom, Benny Isom and Todd Isom.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 AM until service time at 1 PM.
