Hugh Edward Johnson went to his Heavenly home on January 26, 2021. He was born on August 3, 1929 in Temperance Hall, TN to Allie Jim Terry Johnson and Haston Johnson.

He graduated from Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, TN, where he was a basketball standout. His basketball prowess later earned him a spot in the Greenbrier Athletic Hall of Fame.

After high school, Hugh attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (later Tennessee Tech) where he also played basketball for the Golden Eagles.

Upon graduating college, Hugh married his high school sweetheart, Reba Anderson, to whom he was married for 69 years.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years, then was a basketball coach and schoolteacher, as well as being employed by G.E. Credit Corp. In 1964, Hugh and his family moved to Huntsville, AL to work as a loan officer for First National Bank. After 30 plus years, he retired from Regions Bank as a Sr. Vice President.

In retirement, Hugh and Reba enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. His special joy was attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurricular activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Reba, who passed away only three weeks earlier.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Debbie Evans (Steve), Eddie Johnson (Donna), and Johnny Johnson (Debbie); grandchildren, Stacie Steen (Jeff), Kellie Evans, Robby Johnson (Fernanda), Aaron Johnson, Moranda Kennedy (Seth), Breanna Steelman (Tim), and Tyler Johnson (Allison); great-grandchildren, Allie Steen, Ella Steen, Hadlie Johnson, Hugh Johnson, and Kye Kennedy; brother, Lynn Johnson (Reba); sister-in-law, Ann Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
