Mr. Hoyt Holcomb of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, surrounded by his family. Hoyt was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama on April 18, 1933, he lived his life exemplifying his love for God, Family, and Country. He was a faithful believer, serving as a Deacon and Ordained Minister in his church, the Church of God of Prophecy.
Hoyt served proudly in the U.S. Army at Ft. Knox from January 1954 to January 1956 as a medical technician. He is credited with assisting in over 250 child deliveries during that time. He had a great mind for math, so while raising his family, he obtained a degree in physics. He was a Civil Servant for nearly 40 years, designing and installing calibration facilities both domestically and abroad.
His family was his pride and joy. He had seven brothers and sisters, three children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He and his wife, Mary Virginia (Gunnells) Holcomb, would have celebrated their 72nd anniversary on July the 3rd. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Alpha Holcomb; sisters, Rachel Richardson, Pauline Alexander, and Sue Mensinger; and brothers, Gene and Roy Holcomb. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Michael (Sabrina) and Kenneth (Marcia); daughter, Carol; grandsons, Derek, Seth, Matthew (Marley), and Clay (Hannah); great-granddaughters, Nora, Margot, Tess, and Violet; and sisters, Martha Hughes and Ola Smoots.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to The American Cancer Society, as he lost many members of family and friends to cancer and was a cancer survivor himself.
