hollers from the hollowsFLORENCE-Greg Starnes, the writer of “Hollers From The Hollows” and “A Secessionist Christmas Carol” visited a local bookstore in Tuscumbia Saturday, March 22nd where he was signing copies of hs books and christmasmeeting his fans.
“Hollers From the Hollows”  is a collection of 17 family-friendly ghost stories that take place mainly in

Dekalb County. The stories range in ghostly fun from haunted houses, mysterious phantoms, ghost filled graveyards to UFO sightings.
Starnes’ favorite of the haunted tales was “The Old Courthouse at Lebanon”.” It is his favorite because, “Many people have heard about Antebellum Annie (my name for the ghost), but I actually captured her on film when I took a picture of the courthouse. She is waving to me with her left hand, so that made it even more spooky.”

My favorite stories from “Hollers from the Hollow” were “Satan Killed My Boys” because it was drew me in, kept my attention and was sad and funny at the same time. I enjoyed “Breakfast in Bed” for its surpise ending, mystery and well developed characters. “Orb Monsters” also stood out to me because of its creepy-crawly content I easily relate to.
The book was filled with creative illustrations at the front of every chapter. Each picture resembled a moment from every story. It helped capture my interest.
After reading “Hollers from the Hollows”  I feel like I learned a bit about history and had fun doing it. So many people have ghostly experiences around Alabama and I am glad somebody, Starnes, is documenting it in a fun-historically based short story form. I look forward to reading more of his work and encourage others as well.
“Hollers from the Hollows” gets four local Alabama ghosts out of five.
