Gaye was a native of Columbus, MS. She was born on September 4, 1945, the daughter of the late William Fields and Margie Weathers Fields. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Jettie Fields Bouch. She was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women (Columbus, MS), where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Gaye taught for 36 years, educating students in Atlanta, GA, Columbus, MS and Huntsville, AL. Thirty-one of those years were taught in the Madison County and City School System, where she received an Education Achievement Award. Gaye was a member of the Alabama Education Association, Mended Hearts Chapter 260 and Joy Seekers Sunday School Class at Hillwood Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful member for over 40 years. Gaye had a kind heart and a loving spirit. Everyone who knew her, loved her. Her sense of humor and smile brightened every room. Gaye was a second mom and mentor to many and was always a counselor giving sound advice. She had an abundance of compassion being a long-term champion for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helping to raise thousands of dollars over her teaching career; a Special Olympics Volunteer and a Mended Hearts Support Advocate after a successful TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Value Replacement) procedure. She was an avid participant and spectator for many sports; including being the “Star” pitcher on a ladies church softball league, golfer, bowler participating on many senior leagues, and watching her grandsons play soccer and football. Gaye loved planting flowers, gardening and fishing. She always won the “The Most Fish Caught” family competition award.
Gaye leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband of nearly 52 years, Donald R. Woodstock of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Kimberly Woodstock Rushton and Karen Ann Woodstock, both of Pelham, AL; grandsons, Benjamin and Zachary Rushton of Pelham, AL; and her church family and friends. We rest in assurance that she is at peace and pain free with our Lord and Savior.
