Henry David Muse PhotoMuseHenry David Muse, 85, of Florence, Alabama, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026. Born on November 17, 1940, he graduated at the age of 16 from Rogers High School and attended the Florence State Teachers College. He obtained his master’s degree from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. In addition to working as a statistician for the U.S. Forest Service for eight years. He dedicated his life to teaching mathematics and enjoyed working with high school students as well as his students at the University of North Alabama (UNA). He served as a full professor at UNA from 1986 – 2019 with his final year spent as an Isbell Scholar where the proceeds from his employment were donated to create a scholarship fund for students majoring in mathematics. For many years he also served as a minster for the United Methodist Church in the Wright and Waterloo communities.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ann Sloggett Muse, his siblings, Frank Rogers Muse and Wanda Lewis Muse Putman and his parents, Elzie Grant Muse and Mary Moore Abramson.

He is survived by his four children, David Seth (Becca), William Brian (Iryna), Joy Lynn Brown (Jason), Michael Grant; grandchildren, Julia, Vera, Max, Will, Tuesday Ann, and Ben; and his sister, Joni Rhodes (Ralph).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the David Muse Mathematics Endowed Scholarship at the University of North Alabama will be greatly welcomed and appreciated by the family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
