Helen Ruth Brown Jackson, 79, of Huntsville, passed away on March 5, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on September 19, 1936. She spent most of her youth living in Jackson and DeKalb counties in Alabama and St. Louis, Missouri. Helen graduated from Fyffe High School in 1954 and was voted “Miss Fyffe” her senior year. She married Donald Jackson in 1954.
Helen led a very active life with numerous hobbies, including bowling, painting, sewing, collecting and traveling throughout the US and Europe. She had a spirited personality and was always ready with a witty saying for every situation. Helen had a passion for helping others, and her generosity was known to both friends and strangers alike.
Helen was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother who supported her family throughout her life. “Mema” treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always providing praise, encouragement and giving them a dollar bill each time she saw them.
Helen is survived by her children Chandra (Mike) Reynolds of Overland Park, Kansas, Dan (Chris) Jackson, Kay Thompson and Patty Jackson, of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother Byron Brown; and countless extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1991.
Helen’s love and legacy will live on through her family, and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation is planned from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 at Ebenezer Cemetery in Snead, Alabama.
Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
