Funeral for Helen Nelson Thornton, 93, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Satterfield and Reverend Don Barber officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Creek Baptist Church in Cooper, Alabama (Chilton County). Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thornton, who died Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Decatur Morgan Parkway Medical Center, was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Chilton County to John Marion Nelson and Bessie Robinson Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adell Thornton (1992); one brother, Billy Nelson; one sister, Mary Francis Henley and her parents.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Thornton (Lisa), Cullman, Byron Thornton (Cindy), McKinney, Texas, Mark Thornton (Melissa), Madison and Tim Thornton (Cindy), Huntsville; one brother, John Nelson, Weogufka, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Thornton, Reed Thornton, Rebecca Thornton, Kyle Zimmerman, Taylor Thornton, Brooke Thornton and Ford Thornton; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Wallace, Edmund Thornton, Caitlin Wallace and Henry Thornton.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
