Hazel Johnson West Violet, age 99, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at NHC Healthcare Scott in Lawrenceburg, TN. She was a native of Lawrence County, TN, retired from the Lawrence County School System, the first lay teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School, and a charter member of Pulaski Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Violet served on the Lawrence County Senior Citizen Board and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Her love of travel took her to all fifty states, as well as Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Highland Park FCE Club, formerly known as the Home Demonstration Club, the Dorcas sewing group, Davy Crockett Good Sams Club, and the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Violet enjoyed participating in the Tennessee Senior Olympics where she received several medals including a gold medal. She also won many blue ribbons in multiple categories at the Middle Tennessee District Fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odes G. and Mable Ellen Staggs Johnson; her husband Earl Violet; one granddaughter, Hope Luffman; and one brother, Doyle Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters, Vikki West Luffman (Gary) and Kristi Miller (Mark); one son, Kevin West (Charlotte); sister-in-law, Edith Johnson; seven grandchildren, Heather, Haley, Christopher, Lindsey, Michael, Kristen, and Hunter; one step-grandchild, Shannon; seventeen great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews, Connie Sehorn, Debbie Johnson, Jim Johnson, and Tim Johnson.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to Pulaski Street Church of Christ for the Building Fund or the Youth Group Fund.
