Harvey Madison (Matt) Holaway of Guntersville Alabama passed away on 5-14-25 at the age 67, after a battle
with lung cancer. Matt fought Cancer hard, but it never stopped him from living his best life. Matt never gave
up, until he heard God saying, “It’s time for more laughter in heaven, so come on home Matt.”
He was born in Guntersville Alabama on January 22, 1958 to Harvey D. Holaway and Martha Carolyn (Martin)
Holaway of Guntersville.
Matt graduated from Arab High School in 1976. He attended Wallace State Community College and was a
Certified Air Condition Technician. He worked most of his life in construction.
Matt had one child, Joshua (Josh) Martin Holaway. Matt enjoyed spending time with his wife, Josh and his
grandchildren. Matt enjoyed cutting up with others and found great joy in making others laugh. Matt always
brought a smile to others face, boy what at legacy. He did this up until his mind could no longer put the words
together. He never met a stranger.
Matt lived a simple life. Matt was saved by the grace of God and told others recently that he could not wait to
be with our parents and other family and friends that have passed away recently, tell a few jokes and to hear
them laugh. He will be missed by all that knew him and loved him.
He leaves behind his wife Tonja(Holcomb), Son Joshua (Josh) Martin Holaway of Joppa, Step daughters Dacia
Holcomb Hyde (Shannon) of Kilpatrick, Maleah Holcomb of Boaz, Makita Holcomb of Scant City, grandchildren:
Katelyn Holaway of Albertville, Ella Holaway Shelton of Guntersville. Step- grandchildren; Addison Shirey,
Dewayne Hyde, Kason Hyde, Emberson Hyde, of Kilpatrick , Kaylee Payne, Kayden Payne of Scant City and
Everly Holcomb of Boaz.
Brother: Johnny Holaway of Madison, Sisters: Scharlene Chamblee (Gary) of Guntersville, Christy Pierce
(Rusty)of Guntersville, Nieces: Crystal Christen of Arab and Jennifer Childers (Micheal) of Joppa, Leah Crawford
of Trussville, Jamie Bryant(Chad) of Albertville, Amanda Timko(Douglas) of Birmingham. and a nephew Josh
Kelley(Tasha)of Muscle Shoals and several great nieces and great nephews.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey D. Holaway and Martha (Martin) Holaway of Guntersville,
his paternal grandparents, John Raymon Holaway and Leslie Holaway (Hayes)formally of Arab as well as his
maternal grandparents, Crawford VanBuren Martin and, Mary Martin (Thornton)formally of Guntersville.
His services will be held at Sweet Home Baptist Church , Guntersville -on May 16, 2025. Family visitation is
from 11:30am-12:00pm. Visitation 12:00pm-1:00pm and Service at 1:00pm.
