Harold W. Callahan – Obituary

Funeral service for Harold W. Callahan, 85, of Hartselle, will be Tuesday August 29, 2017 at 11:00AM at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Harold Brown, Bro. Ben Bates, Bro. Michael Speegle, and Bro. Earl Holt officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be Monday August 28, 2017 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Peck Funeral Home. Mr. Callahan will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

 

Mr. Callahan died August 24, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born April 16, 1932 in Morgan County to Charlie Ismael Callahan and Tressie Lee Maples Callahan. Mr. Callahan retired from Wolverine Tube, Inc. He was a member of New Center Baptist Church. Mr. Callahan enjoyed fishing, farming and, before an ongoing illness, he sold vegetables and watermelons. He also loved planting flowers, especially roses, and sold the best peaches. Harold was a loving and sweet father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved singing in the choir when he was able, he read through the bible many times and loved the Lord and his family. He loved his wife and never wanted to leave her anytime, they would have been married for 65 years on August 30th; but he is celebrating life with Christ now. Mr. Callahan is a veteran of the U.S. Army, in his early years prior to the Army he worked at the City Market in Hartselle. During his illness he would pass time by doing word find puzzles and sitting on the porch waving at his neighbors and friends. Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Callahan and one daughter, Deborah Callahan.

Five Grandchildren:

Amanda Callahan Baker (John), Michael A. Speegle (Alexis), Lindsay M. Speegle, Eric W. Speegle and Justine Callahan.

 

Two Great-Grandchildren:

Isaiah Speegle and Karis Speegle

 

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Walker, Eric Callahan, Steve Estes, Brian Vines, Jerry Vines, Matt Adcock and Wade Bogle.

 

The family would to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Bachdashe and the Decatur General ICU staff for their care.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
