Harold David “Hap” Chandler – Obituary

haroldHarold David “Hap” Chandler, 78, of Rogersville passed away Tuesday, July 07, 2015 at his residence. He was a 1955 graduate of Lauderdale County High School and a veteran of the United States Marines. He worked at Reynolds Alloy, Oakridge Nuclear Y-12 plant, Oak Ridge, TN and retired from GM/Delphi, Athens.
Hap was the Mayor of Rogersville from 2000 – 2008 and a past president of the North Alabama Mayor’s Association. He was a member of Oliver Church of Christ and the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 9th, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver Church of Christ with David O’Connell and Greg Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be family, friends and grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, David & Marie Chandler; brother, Terry Chandler; sister, Winnie Swan and grandson, Brandon Whisenhunt. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Shirley Chandler; children, Cheryl Chandler (John) Burroughs, Beth (Mike) Key, Ken (Lisa) Chandler, Lori (Brent) Daniel, Tina Whisenhunt and Tracy (April) Chance; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Jerry) Patterson; brothers, Ronald (Judy) Chandler, Danny (Cathy) Chandler and Max (Marsha) Chandler; numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Friends of the Rogersville Library or to Hospice of the Shoals.
