Harley “Joe” Richards, age 77, of the Scant City area of Arab, Alabama passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Joe was born April 27, 1946 in Marshall County, AL. His parents were L.B. Richards, Sr. and Rovirta Melvinie Patterson Richards. He and his wife, Sherry Thea Keese-Richards were married for over 55 years. Joe worked for and retired from Norandal Corporation in Scottsboro where he worked in the shipping department as a fork lift operator. After his formal retirement he started a woodworking and carpentry business which eventually led to residential home building. Joe was a God fearing Christian and loved traveling to and attending Bible conferences. There were many activities Joe found interesting and was actively engaged in at some time. Riding motorcycles and horses, traveling and family vacations, watching TV westerns, and going to the beach were some of his favorite activities. Mostly he enjoyed his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were the loves of his life. Joe will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving family members include: Joe’s wife, Rhea Richards; his son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Karen Richards; his son, Nick Richards; brothers, L.B Richard, Jr. (Bonnie) and Ralph Richards (Brenda); grandchildren, Matt McElyea (Hope), Hayden Richards (Aleah), Jared Taylor (Tisha), and Jaycee Richards; great grandchildren, Noah McElyea, Kayson Richards, Tristan Taylor, Jayden Taylor and Kassie Taylor.
Along with his parents, preceding Joe in death are his daughter, Amy Richards Alverson and sister, Lois Vaughn.
The family will be receiving friends and extended family at a memorial service on Sunday afternoon, May 28, 2023. The visitation will be between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m and the memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Both activities will be at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Alabama.
