Gwen Walker (née Ray) of Huntsville, Alabama went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 88.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Huntsville where Gwen faithfully attended and served as a long-term member. Following visitation, Dr. Harold Fanning will officiate at the Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. Dr. Richard Walker will perform the graveside service.

Gwen attended Auburn University and graduated from Dekalb Community College. After retiring from her position with an Industrial Psychologist Group in Atlanta, she moved back to Huntsville. While living in Huntsville and Ft. Payne, Mrs. Walker was always active in her community. Her life was one of service to others and she enjoyed volunteering and serving on several boards and received multiple awards, including Maple Hill Cemetery Flag Project, GFWC Dumidi Women’s Club Distinguished Young Woman Award (1970), FDYW Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama by Ft. Payne, AL Jayceettes Auxilliary, Director of Ft. Payne Chamber of Commerce (1972-1975), Rotary Rose Award for Outstanding Community Service, Ft. Payne Rotary Club (1973-1974), Project Chairman for 1973 Christmas Festival for Ft. Payne Chamber of Commerce, Honor Flight volunteer with the “Still Serving Veterans” organization of Huntsville, and GFWC Dumidi Woman’s Club Outstanding Club Woman (2010-2011). Mrs. Walker enjoyed singing in the choir and serving at both First Baptist of Ft. Payne and First Baptist of Huntsville.

Survivors include her sons, David Walker (Sissy), Scott Walker (Jamie), and Dr. Richard Walker (Teresa); grandchildren, Brett Walker, Rachael Walker, Josh Walker, and Cody Hawthorne; five great-grandchildren; sister, Johnnie Ray; nephew, Gary Cooper; nieces Sherry Calvert, Diana Ings, Andrea Coffin, Donna Fleming, and Lisa Wilkerson, their spouses, children, cousins, and multiple great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth “Honey” Ray of Huntsville; sister, Elizabeth Ann Walker; and brothers, Glenn and Herbert Ray Jr., of Huntsville.
