Logo IconGregory Thomas Jeter, affectionately known to all as simply Greg, fought the good fight, kept the faith, and won the final victory on Thursday morning, September 10, 2026. Surrounded by the love and care of his wife, children, and family, Greg peacefully entered his eternal rest.

Services celebrating the life of our friend Greg will be held at 4 PM Monday, September 14, 2026, in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home. William Shelton will read the obituary, and Bro. Doc Shelton will share words of comfort. Visitation will be from 2 PM until the time of service on Monday at Ripley Funeral Home.

Born July 21, 1968, in Tippah County, Greg was the son of the late Henry Jeter and Eddie Ann Carter Smith. He was raised by his beloved grandmother, the late Mrs. Icie Jeter, and attended Pine Grove High School.

Although Greg may not have spent his life studying books, he knew just about everything there was to know about hard work. A true jack of all trades, he was never afraid to get his hands dirty. Rain or shine, hot or cold, day or night, Greg was always willing to work for what he had and provide for those he loved. He could often be found helping Michael Dixon lay asphalt or set up bouncy houses, roofing, painting, washing cars, or doing most anything else that needed to be done. The job itself never mattered much to Greg—as long as there was honest work to do, he was ready to do it. Of all the jobs he held throughout his life, his favorite was working with Elders House Movers, helping move houses from one place to another.

Greg shared a love story like no other with his beloved wife, Peggy Bledsoe Jeter, known to everyone as Pattie. When asked how long they had been married, the usual response was, “Which time?” Through every season of life, however, their love remained unconditional. No matter where the road carried them, it always seemed to lead them back to one another. Their story began more than forty years ago, and the love they shared remained strong until the very end.

A Baptist, Greg found his greatest happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching a good episode of The Andy Griffith Show while smoking a cigarette, spending time at the lake, grilling at home, and doing anything that involved his grandbabies. They had Grandpa wrapped around their fingers, and he would not have had it any other way. Whether he was teaching the boys how to shoot, listening to the girls tell him about their day, or simply spending time with them, Greg treasured every moment. To those children, he was more than their grandpa—he was one of their greatest friends.

Greg Jeter was as good a friend as anyone could ever hope to have. He would give someone the shirt off his back and never expect a thing in return. He worked hard, cared deeply for those he loved, minded his own business, and never needed recognition or the spotlight. Greg simply showed up, did what needed to be done, and helped wherever he could.

The world could learn a great deal from the life of Greg Jeter. His legacy will be found in the people he helped, the family he provided for, the friendships he remained faithful to, and the grandbabies he loved beyond measure. It will be remembered in the simple way he lived, the kindness he freely gave, and his willingness to always be there when someone needed him most. Greg will be deeply missed by more people than he could have ever known.

In addition to his beloved wife of more than forty years, Pattie, Greg’s memory will be cherished by his daughter, Tiffany Jeter (Timmy Hayes); his son, Joshua Jeter; three sisters, Sandy Dixon (Kenneth), Ronda Jeter, and Tonda Jeter; two brothers, David Walker and Neil Walker; his pride and joy, his grandbabies, Rylan Jeter, Audrey Strickland, Grayson Blackwell, Leah Hayes, Krissy Ratlif, Ava Lence, and Zack Hayes, and his faithful canine companion, Jack. He also leaves behind his friends at Ripley Funeral Home, many work colleagues, extended family members, and a host of dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and the grandmother who raised and loved him, Mrs. Icie Jeter.
