DEKALB COUNTY-A $400,000 grant awarded by Governor Robert Bentley will enable DeKalb County’s largest industrial employer to expand and continue its investment in the community.
Funding will supply Koch Foods with required infrastructure needed for a $30 million upgrade of its poultry processing plant in Collinsville. The plant employs 836 people and contracts with local poultry producers. Koch also plans to build 150 chicken houses in the region.
The Community Development Block Grant will be used to provide sewer services for the plant, which currently is served by an on-site and company-owned wastewater system. The town of Collinsville is providing local funding of $96,800 for the project.
Bentley notified Mayor Johnny Traffenstedt that the grant had been approved.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
