Gordon Neil Glover, 82, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away Friday.
Gordon Neil Glover affectionately known as Nonnie, was a free-spirited, strong-willed man who lived life on his own terms. He was never one to sit still for long or wait for someone else to tell him what to do. When Nonnie got a notion to go, he went – and there was usually no talking him out of it.
He found some of his greatest peace and happiness in the woods, where he could spend countless hours exploring, enjoying the quiet, and doing things his own way. He also had a lifelong love for his Harley Davidson. An avid motorcycle rider, Nonnie made countless trips to Bike Week in Daytona and Sturgis, creating memories and stories along the way. For him, riding wasn’t simply a hobby, it was freedom, adventure, and a way of life.
Nonnie was also a hardworking and talented man. He was a member of the Carpenters Union in Atlanta, Georgia, for 25 years, where he spent years working with his hands. Perhaps one of his simplest, and most special, talents was his ability to take an old stick or piece of wood and, with a little time and imagination, turn it into just about anything. He had a gift for seeing something where others might see nothing.
Strong-willed, independent, and unmistakably himself, Nonnie lived a life full of adventure, hard work, family, and plenty of stories to tell. Beneath that stubborn streak was a man who loved his family deeply and in his own way. He leaves behind not only memories, but pieces of himself in the people he loved and the lives he touched.
Nonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle Lewis and Bill Glover; his brother, James Kenneth “Bus” Glover; and his sisters, Francis Woody and Doris Cooper and father-in-law Floyd E. Lee, Jr.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Ronda Lee Fisher; his children, Regina Glover Gilmore (Ricky) and Jody Glover (Megan), stepdaughter Amanda Hopkins (Donnie); his grandchildren, Tyler Gilmore, Whittney Gilmore, Jon Glover, and Savanna Glover; great grandchildren, Legend, Lennox and Luca; his brother, Joe Wayne “Rose” Glover; and his sister, Nancy Hale (Max); Mother-in-law Edna Manning Lee, brothers-in-law Joe Ed Lee (Cindy) and Russell Lee, sisters-in-law Susan Lee and LaVeeta Williams (Barron) along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be Sunday 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow Sunday at 3:00 PM with Bro. Wade Franks officiating.
