Mrs. Gertrude "Gertie" Wallace When you think of Mrs. Gertrude “Gertie” Anderson Wallace, the first thing that comes to mind was her smile. Always welcoming, always sweet, which best defined her. Sadly, Mrs. Wallace passed away yesterday, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
Mrs. Wallace was born February 26, 1929 in Parsons, Tennessee to the late Andrew and Lucy Bawcum Anderson. She married George “Lee” Wallace on March 28, 1948 and they enjoyed 54 years together before his passing in 2002. She worked at First National Bank for 17 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington. She loved life and her church where she was very involved for many years. She had been living with her daughter in Olive Branch for the past 6 years.
Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Wallace was also preceded in death by her son, Walter Wallace in 2009. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Beth Miller (Hubert); three grandchildren, Lenzi Wallace, Jessica Wallace Powers, and Drew Wallace; four great grandchildren, Parker Powers, Preston Brunt, Ryles Dodd and Phoenix Wood; and a loving caregiver, Sissy McLemore.
Graveside services for Mrs. Wallace are scheduled for 2 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Lexington Cemetery with Dr. Hoyt Wilson and David Holmes officiating. Pafford Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to be sent to First Baptist Church in Lexington or the charity of your choice. All attendees are asked to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines.
